FUNDAMENTALS OF SYSTEMS ANALYSIS IN EDUCATION
ABSTRACT
Educational systems across the world operate as complex structures composed of multiple interrelated components such as curriculum design, teaching methodologies, administrative policies, infrastructure, and support services. In Nigeria, persistent challenges including inadequate funding, poor infrastructure, and ineffective educational planning have continued to undermine the quality of education. This study examines the fundamentals of systems analysis in education and investigates how systems analysis can be utilized as a strategic tool for improving the efficiency and quality of the Nigerian educational system.
The research adopted a descriptive survey design to evaluate the relevance of systems analysis within the education sector. A stratified random sampling technique was employed to select a sample of one hundred (100) students from different secondary schools within Jalingo Metropolis in Taraba State, Nigeria. Primary data were collected using structured questionnaires, while statistical tools such as simple percentage analysis and the chi-square test were used to analyze the data and test research hypotheses.
Findings from the study revealed that the application of systems analysis significantly contributes to improving educational planning, resource allocation, and instructional delivery. The results also demonstrate a meaningful relationship between systems analysis practices and the enhancement of educational quality. The study highlights the importance of adopting a holistic and data-driven approach to managing educational institutions, ensuring that various components of the educational system function efficiently and collaboratively.
Based on the findings, the study recommends that educational authorities should integrate systems analysis principles into educational planning and policy formulation. Additionally, institutions should invest in modern educational resources such as laboratories, instructional technologies, well-equipped libraries, and updated learning materials to enhance teaching and learning outcomes. Strengthening these components will contribute to the overall transformation of the Nigerian education sector and support sustainable national development.

This research focuses on the fundamentals of systems analysis and its application within the Nigerian education sector. The study specifically examines secondary school students in Jalingo Metropolis, Taraba State, in order to evaluate perceptions of educational quality and institutional performance.
The research emphasizes the role of systems analysis in identifying inefficiencies within educational structures and proposes strategies for improving educational management and planning.
1.7 Limitations of the Study
Like many research studies, this study encountered certain limitations that may influence the scope of the findings.
One of the primary limitations was financial constraint, which restricted access to extensive research materials and limited the ability to conduct broader data collection across multiple regions.
Another limitation was time constraint, as the researcher had to balance the research work with other academic responsibilities. This limited the time available for comprehensive fieldwork and data analysis.
